The Coombe End Farm Story
The beautiful and historic Coombe End farm was recently occupied by a collective of Musicians Artists and Performers who protested against the absence of care by the owners - the National Trust. The building and surrounding land was donated in 1932 and had tenants until a few years ago. There are many reasons to want to save the building and outhouses, but the habitat was also a reason to fight for ongoing care to be taken of the property. The collective asked for an arrangement to be made whereby they could become voluntary live-in caretakers of the property, costing the National Trust nothing and even suggesting ways to bring money in for the renovation projects. The National Trust decided to evict the occupants and now the building is borded up once more and the fate uncertain.
